Inter-Ministerial Technical Working Group (ITWG) Meeting for the Migration Profile Lao PDR
Vientiane – The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized an Inter-Ministerial Technical Working Group (ITWG) Meeting for the Migration Profile Lao PDR, on 22 August 2022, at Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane Capital. The meeting aimed to enhance ITWG’s members to have the comprehensive understanding of the process of developing the Lao PDR Migration Profile through the knowledge exchange between Maldives and Lao PDR.
The meeting was co-chaired by PhD. Thanongsai Soukkhamthat, Deputy Director General of the Development Research Institute (DRI), Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Ms. Shareen Tuladhar, Chief of Mission, IOM Lao People’s Democratic Republic. At the meeting, Mr. Ibrahim Ashraf, Deputy Controller of Maldives Immigration, was invited to share experiences and lessons learned of the implementation of the Migration Profile in Maldives.
Migration Profile is an international flagship report drafted by IOM member states to strengthen migration management capacity. Lao People’s Democratic Republic joined the IOM as the 17th Member State in June 2018. The Migration Profile in Lao PDR will serve as a critical tool for future evidence-based policy development and programming in the country.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the effective migration governance in Lao People’s Democratic Republic based on the evidence-based migration management policies and policy framework. The Migration Profile is both a report and a capacity-building tool, which is country-owned and prepared in consultation with a broad range of stakeholders in the future that will be promoting evidence-based policymaking and mainstream migrations in the development and policymaking process in the country.
